Should I Get a Body Piercing?

At some point, you may or may not be tempted to get a body piercing. Whatever your reason may be, there are some things you probably should think about and know before you jump out there and start putting holes in your body.

Why Do You Want a Body Piercing?

If you want a piercing just because your friends and everyone else has one, then that’s the wrong reason.

Piercings aren’t for everyone so you should make sure that it’s something that you want to do on your own and not because other people are doing it.

Be Sure You Get Permission

It would be pretty messed up if you got a piercing without your parents consent. In most places you have to be at least 18 years of age to get a piercing.

If you’re unsure about how old you have to be where you live, I would investigate it if I were you.

If you ask your parents and they say no, then that’s something you’ll have to deal with until you become of age. Now, that may be difficult to swallow, but what’s more important – getting a piercing or maintaining your parents trust?

If you dismiss everything that I say, don’t dismiss this… don’t go behind your parents back. If they tell you that they don’t want you to get a piercing, it’s for a good reason.

They’re not trying to be mean and torture you. They’re doing it because for the most part, they know what’s best for you. They love you and right now, what they say goes.

Where Are You Getting Pierced?

So, where do you want your piercing to go? Are you thinking about the ears, tongue, eyebrow, lip, nose, belly button, upper lip or somewhere else?

The location of your piercing is important. Even though you want to show it off, there may come a time where you can’t.

For example, what if you get a really good job in an office somewhere and you have an eyebrow piercing. Your job may have a dress code that prohibits piercings like that.

That’s definitely something to think about. Whatever piercing you decide to get, be sure that it won’t interfere with any work you decide to do.

Do Your Homework on Professional Piercers?

Who does your piercing is very important. There’s a huge difference between a licensed piercer at the mall and some guy you met through your friend who does piercings in his basement.

Do your homework. Make sure whomever you choose is licensed to do piercings. There are many people out there who do piercings who don’t follow the guidelines.

If you choose the wrong person, you could be getting pierced with a needle that was just used on someone else and wasn’t sterilized.

For some, getting a body piercing is a way to express themselves. Just make sure that whatever your reason is for getting a piercing, you do your best to make sure that it’s the right thing for you to do.
