What to Wear When Filling Out a Job Application

Believe it or not, it does matter what you wear when going to fill out job applications. Have you ever heard the phrase “First impressions are lasting impressions”? Well it’s true.

So, I’m going to tell you what to wear when filling out a job application.

Although many people just walk into companies wearing any old thing, it’s true that some companies will give you an interview on the spot when you first come in.

In that case, it’s important that you look your best.

Don’t wear excessive jewelry

Try not to wear so many rings or necklaces when you fill out an application. You want the employees and bosses to notice you and not all of your shiny jewelry.

If you have multiple piercings, don’t fill them all in with different earrings and other items. Some companies allow it and some don’t, but you don’t want to take your chances. Again, you want the interviewer to focus on you and not your accessories.

Tongue rings are a no no as well. Take out your tongue ring before going into a company and filling out an application. Not only will they understand you better, but you’ll look more professional as well.

Wear clothes that fit

I don’t know how many times I’ve seen people walk into a company to fill out an application and their clothes are either too small or too big.

I saw one guy whose pants were sagging and two girls who came in with their boobs hanging so far out of their shirts, I was afraid for them to lean over. That appearance isn’t cute nor is it professional looking.

Stick with clothes that fit, even if it makes you uncomfortable. You’re trying to make a lasting impression here, so make it last.

Stay away from sneakers and flip flops

It’s easy to throw on comfortable shoes like sneakers and flip flops when you know you’re only filling out job applications.

However, like I mentioned before, you want to be ready for a possible interview and those types of footwear aren’t professional looking.

I’m not saying you have to go out and buy $100 pair of shoes, but I am saying you have to look professional. You can get cheap, nice looking shoes for not very much.

Professional clothing goes a long way

You can easily get a nice pair of slacks, skirt and dress shirt and look awesome. You don’t have to go in dressed like a CEO, but you can dress business casual.

It doesn’t take a whole lot to look professional. Now that you know what to wear when filling out a job application, get out there, turn some heads and make an everlasting impression!
