A lot of people think that Valentine’s Day is for the ladies. I can see how they would think this because around this special day, everyone advertises flowers, candy, teddy bears and a lot of other girly things.
But in fact, this day isn’t only just for us girls; it’s for the guys as well. Here’s the definition of Valentine’s Day according to Wikipedia…
Saint Valentine’s Day, commonly shortened to Valentine’s Day, is an annual commemoration held on February 14 celebrating love and affection between intimate companions.
So there you have it. This day is about celebrating the love and affection between intimate companions, which includes a guy and a girl. Now of course not everyone who celebrates this day is intimate with someone, but it’s still fun to share the affection.
Many ladies tend to get a brain freeze when they think about what to get a guy for Valentine’s Day. I’ll be the first to admit that I’ve had some difficulties through the years with buying gifts. For some ladies, it’s not an easy task. However, there are certain methods you can take when buying gifts.
What Does He Like?
Think about the guy you want to give a gift to. Is he your companion? If so, think about what he likes. I’m pretty sure through the course of your relationship you have picked up on his likes and dislikes. Even if you two are a new couple, you had to have known him before you were a couple right? What does he like to do? Is he into any sports? Does he have any hobbies?
Think about this for a minute and write a list. Once your list is complete, you can then narrow it down to maybe a few things by process of elimination.
You sort of have to get inside his head to figure out what he will like. But don’t worry; it’s not a hard thing to do. Believe it or not, it’s often a lot harder for the guys to get us gifts than the other way around.
Some of us get tired of flowers and candy every year and expect the men to get us something different. Because we don’t really tell them what we want, it puts even more pressure on them to deliver the best.
Put Your List Into Play
So you still may need some extra ideas on what to get a guy for Valentine’s Day. Well, take that list we talked about earlier and head to the mall. Roam through some stores that you think may have what you’re looking for. Test the waters and see what’s out there. It’s possible that you may deviate completely from the list and find him something that he will love.
Stroll through the cologne store and pick out a fragrance that he’s been talking about or that you think may smell great on him. Is his money and belongings about to fall out of his pants? He may be in the need of a new wallet. What about that one video game he won’t shut up about? I know before the game, Call of Duty: Black Ops, first came out, my husband wouldn’t shut up about it.
When in Doubt Turn to Family or Friends
If you are still completely in the clouds about what to get a guy for Valentine’s Day, then why not turn to the ones who know him best; his friends and family. Of course they would know what he likes right? They would have the best advice about what his hobbies are, his favorite foods, his favorite sport and what he likes to do in his spare time.
Family would be the best way to go because they know him personally. If you haven’t met his family yet, that’s alright. This could be the break you needed to actually get to know them.
If you don’t want to turn to the family, then turn to his friends. They hang out with him just as much as his family does, maybe even more. There’s no hurt in asking them what he likes or what he’s into.
Family and friends could be the key to finding out things about your guy that you don’t know quite yet.
He’s Just a Friend but Maybe Something More
So you have a guy friend who is just a friend but you’re hoping that it could be something more. Valentine’s Day is just the opportunity you need to let him know that. You never know, he may be hoping the same thing.
You could start off the same way as all the others by finding out what he likes. You may not want to go too hard, but just a small summin’, summin’, could do the trick. A simple card with a nice note inside or “would you be mine” candies can go a long way.
Figuring out what to get a guy for Valentine’s Day can be tough if you’re going in blind. However, if you use the tips above, I’m sure you’ll be able to get him something that he’ll appreciate.
So, what are your thoughts? What have you gotten your guy for Valentine’s Day ladies? What have you received from your girlfriend guys? Let me know.
