3 Reasons You Shouldn’t Go to College

3 Reasons You Shouldn't Go to CollegeI know you’re thinking, “Scarlet, are you actually about to give me reasons why I shouldn’t go to college?” Well, yes.

Now don’t get me wrong. There are definitely benefits of going to college, but there are times where it just might not be for you.

Have you sat and thought about it? Do you think that you’re prepared for it? Can you or your family pay for it?

These are questions that you’ll have to think about. College isn’t like high school. You won’t have your teachers or family there pushing you to do your homework.

I know that might seem awesome now, but when you have a final exam to take and you haven’t put one hour towards studying or have done a lick of homework, then you’ll understand.

So let’s jump into some reasons why you shouldn’t go to college and then you can see where your mindset is.

1. You Could Care Less About School

If you’re barely skating through high school and could care less about school, then maybe college isn’t for you. There’s definitely no free tuition unless you’re lucky enough to get a scholarship and financial aid only goes so far.

You don’t want to get to college and waste you or your parents money. Now of course you could go and get a feel for it, then decide what you want a degree in later, but what if you never decide?

Honestly, if you feel that school just isn’t your thing, then there’s no need to waste time and money. However, it’s best you decide what you do want to do with your life after you graduate high school.

2. Your Parents Say So

We all know our parents love us and they want what’s best for us. However, they don’t know everything. You shouldn’t go to college just because your parents, teachers, aunts, uncles or whoever says so.

Yes, they want you to get a good education and be successful in life, but you don’t necessarily need college to be successful.

There are so many celebrities out there who dropped out of high school to pursue their careers and obviously made it big time. I’m talking about Johnny Depp, John Travolta, Nicholas Cage, Ryan Gosling, Walt Disney and so many more.

Now of course they all had dreams and put in a lot of hard work to get where they are today, but they are proof that you don’t need college to be successful.

Now I’m not suggesting that you drop out of high school, pack your bags and run to Hollywood. But what I am saying is not to let other people determine your future.

3. Everyone Else is Going

It’s easy to fall prey to doing things because everyone else is doing them and college isn’t an exception. Don’t feel like just because your friends are going off to college that you have to as well.

You may start feeling like you don’t want to be the one who isn’t doing anything with their life, so you may as well go. Big mistake.

College isn’t something you do just because. It’s something you do because you want to. Everyone is different and everyone’s goals and paths are different.

Your friends’ goals may be to go to a big university and get a degree in medicine, your goal may to become a model. Therefore, you take different paths.

Finding your way might be a challenge, but that’s life. No one said it was gonna be easy. But it’s your life and you have to figure out which way you want to go.

Think About It…

Depending on what stage you are in school, college might not be of much importance right not, but sooner or later you’re going to have to start thinking about it.

Take your time and figure out what it is that YOU want to do. Maybe college is for you and maybe it isn’t. Only time will tell and you’ll soon figure it out.
