You’d think that getting married wouldn’t be something that you’d normally be thinking about right now, right?
I mean your mind is probably on other things, like why your face is constantly breaking out or why the the person you sit to next in class everyday doesn’t notice you.
You may have better things to worry about. However, there are teens who are actually thinking about getting married. Crazy uh?
I suppose not if you’re one of those teens who are thinking about it. In that case… WHAT THE HECK ARE YOU THINKING?!
Marriage is something that you definitely shouldn’t be thinking about right now. Why not? Well, keep reading. Then at the end, you tell me whether or not you’re still thinking about getting married.
But before I get into it, watch this video from the Tyra Banks show about a teen couple who want to get married…
Where Are You Going to Live?
I’m not sure if you know this or not, but I doubt your parents will even let you get married, let along let you live in their house. Housing isn’t necessarily cheap these days and it’s going to take a whole lot of what you don’t have in order to make it work.
Rent varies depending on where you live, but just a one bedroom apartment can run anywhere between $400 to $800 per month, maybe even more. Think you have that type of dough stashed in your piggy bank?
Not only will you have to pay rent, but you’ll have to dish out extra money every month for things called utilities. Oooooh. What the heck are utilities? If you have to ask that, then you definitely don’t need to think about getting married.
Utilities are what your parents pay every month to make sure that you’re comfortable. They pay a gas and heating company to make sure that you can eat hot meals on a daily basis and so that you won’t freeze in the winter or get heat exhaustion in the summer.
There’s also a garbage and water bill that they pay every month. Quite a load uh? That’s because it is. So whatever your rent will be, you’ll have to add on to it for your utilities.
In my opinion, living with your parents throughout your teen years seems like a pretty good idea to me, especially when you’re living for free.
So, how’s that marriage thing sounding now? Let’s move on…
What Will You Do for Money?
So, you’ll have all these bills to pay and the question is… how will you pay them? You’re probably thinking, “Duh, I’ll get a job.” Of course you’ll get a job, what the heck was I thinking?
But what kind of job do you think you’ll be able to get without a high school education, that will pay enough to support you and your spouse? You’ll have to bag a lot of groceries and stock many shelves to make the amount of money you’ll need.
There’s also no more mommy and daddy. If you want to play house, you have to own up to the responsibilities. So, don’t think you can run to your parents when you need help. If you want to make adult decisions, you have to be an adult.
Am I being too harsh? Sorry, but life can be the same way and I’m not done yet…
How Will You Get to and From Your Destinations?
Well, you will need transportation in order to get to and from work and school. How will you make it happen? Ah, yes. There is public transportation. Nothing wrong with that. However, you do need money for bus tokens.
Again, your parents are no longer your transportation. So, don’t even think about calling them when you need a ride to the store. You wanna be the boss, you gotta pay the cost.
You Should Enjoy Life As a Teen While You Can
Think about it for a second. You don’t have to worry about paying bills, going to work or supporting another individual. You have that type of freedom right now. You really have it good.
Your parents take care of you. They make sure you have the necessities like food, clothes and shelter. You don’t have to worry about those things. You should be taking advantage of living at home.
Your teen years are one of the best times of your life, if not the best because you have little to worry about. You should be taking this time to map out your future and figure out what you want to do with your life.
Marriage is sacred and should be taken seriously. However, you’re too young to know what marriage is really about. If you see marriage in your future, then great. However, you shouldn’t be thinking about getting married now.
I’m sure that you don’t know what it feels like to have to pay bills and provide for yourself, but I’ll tell you that it’s not fun, especially when you don’t have money.
So, are you still thinking about getting married? If not, then my job is done and I recommend you for making the right decision. If you’re still thinking about it, then you need to re-read this post as many times as it takes until you no longer want to get married right now.
I’m dishing out some tough love today because I care about your future. I know I was a bit rough, but it was something that you needed to know. Remember, I don’t sugar coat here.
