We’ve all been there, including me. You go to grab your cell phone only to realize that it’s not in the same place you thought you left it.
Then that’s when you go crazy. You start looking everywhere for it; under the couch, beneath your bed, in your closet, etc. I’ve even looked in the fridge for my phone, lol.
Trust me, when you get desperate you’ll start looking in places a cell phone shouldn’t even be. But luckily there’s an app for your smartphone that will prevent you from running around the house looking goofy.
Lookout Mobile Security is a helpful app that will track your phone for you. It’s also scans the apps that are already on your phone; including any new apps you download, in order to eliminate and prevent any spyware or malware that could steal your personal data.
It basically does all of the work. All you have to do is find it in your app store, download it, create an account online and you’re set to go.
Get Lookout Mobile on Your Phone
First, you want to head on over to your app store and download Lookout Mobile Security. I have the Samsung Galaxy Nexus which is an Android, so I use the Google Play Store.
As you can see from 10 million plus downloads and the 5 1/2 star review rating, this app is very popular and highly rated.
You can easily read what others have to say about Lookout Mobile by scrolling down the page. I’ve yet to rate the app, but I’m actually doing that now, lol.
Get Familiar With The Interface
The app isn’t at all difficult to use. Once you’ve downloaded the app, you should see it begin to scan your phone.
It will then let you know whether you’re all clear or if you have some funky apps on your phone that you need to get rid of.
The security button allows you to scan your phone. You can do this at anytime, but Lookout Mobile is always scanning your phone for your convenience.
The backup button lets you backup your data to your account. If you accidentally delete an app, lose your phone or it gets destroyed, you can always retrieve your data on mylookout.com.
As you can see, I have two options that aren’t checked green; the privacy advisor and safe browser. In order to get these, you need to upgrade which involves paying. I try my best not to pay for apps if I can help it.
The privacy advisor keeps track of your apps that can access your private data and the safe browsing keeps you safe from phishing and malware on the web. Just tap on the buttons to get more info about them.
Here’s My Favorite Part… But There’s a Flaw
The missing device button is my favorite, even though it has one thing I don’t like about it. Let me tell you what it does first.
If your phone is lost or stolen, in order to locate it, all you have to do is log into your account and click on “Missing Device”. Once you do that, you’ll be able to locate your phone.
However, it only pinpoints your phone on a map within a few meters. Now this is great if you just want to get a general idea of where your phone is at; like if you misplaced it.
However, if someone were to steal my phone, I’d want an exact location of where it is. If it’s at someones house, then I want the address so I can run up in there and get my stuff back, lol.
I’m just kidding… kind of. Maybe Lookout Mobile doesn’t give exact locations just because of crazy people like me, but I wish they did. That would actually be my only complaint about this app. Other than that, I love it!
Oh, did I mention that your phone can scream? No. Well… your phone can scream! What I mean is that if you want to locate your phone within the home, log into your account, click on “Missing Device” and click on the “Scream” tab.
WARNING: Don’t just play around and click on the scream tab for s**** and giggles. When it says it screams, it does just that. Your phone will let off a loud alarm sound, even if your phone is on silent, so use caution.
Do you already have Lookout Mobile Security on your Android or iPhone? If so, what do you think about it?
